Just to let you know, I mentioned the subject of the skating/hockey package at work today (I'm an employee of Telford Ice Rink). A new memo has been issued and been pinned up behind the Reception counter, stating that Tigers spectators will receive a 25% discount on their skating ticket for that evenings session on production of their hockey ticket from that day (tickets from previous hockey games will not be valid). I am also planning to raise it at the Duty Officer meeting on Friday, to jog everyone's memory or inform those who are unaware. The staff member in charge of Reception has said that skating tickets can only be purchased after the game has finished, but you will not have to join the back of the queue outside. Hopefully this will all be cleared up in time for the weekend!!

That's great. Thanks for your support and for the update 'mrslegend'. I'd still like to see a more 'formal' hockey and skating package deal so perhaps we could catch 'the Management' in a pincer movement Onwards and upwards to rink reception area advertising; a 'Drive for 500' promotion; and then ... THE TITANS!

This isn't so much a suggestion but an insight into why a fan might not be attending games anymore....and I will use me as a good example. I watched the Tigers for quite a few seasons before last season when we didn't ice. Through the many defeats when we were poor through to Cassells and some great hockey. I would attend, and because of that so would my dad. We would both bring our wives. Thats good revenue when you include the shirt off the back tickets and programmes. When we didn't ice, I looked for something else to do. I joined a football team. It's gone well, and most of my kick offs are 5.30pm Sundays. Now I played that for a year, and then when the Tigers came back, I couldn't let down my new team. Hockey is a team game, I'm sure you understand. I'd like to come back and watch the Tigers, but what can make me come back? Honestly, I don't know. A winning team helps, but like I say, I've watched us get beat enough for that not to matter. Maybe the schedule of the game doesn't work? More midweek would be nice, maybe later on a Sunday or more Saturday games? I know from talking to relatives of the old school Tigers when the rink was full, an evening game has much more buzz. I will be attending a game before the end of the season, I have my eye on the upcoming Saturday games in Feb. Maybe getting me to a Saturday or midweek game would make me crave the Tigers again and get me back on a Sunday? Youd lose so so many fans if you put it at 5:30 on a saturday, cause so many people go to football games, and not just telford, im a walsall fan, lots of people are wolves, birmingham, stoke anything like that and wouldnt get back until at least 6:30/7ish.

I'm happy to knock up a little note to put inside the Match night programmes, but I'm not sure that I'll be able to get them to the Rink ahead of this Sunday's game. I'm sure something could also be put on the Tigers website and posibly even the Ice Rink website - but I don't know who would need to do those bits.

Re the Titans - I have no idea what that is about but for the good of senior hockey in Telford I really do think that it is something that needs to be sorted out. Surely there must be an alternative to just accepting a situation that is rubbish all round? Perhaps this could be dealt with like adults and maybe raise a few quid in the process - in the blue corner, Alan 'The Godfather' Gould ... [/quote] Just as an insight ... The Titans have an owner. Following the recent additions to the Tigers squad, I had a phone call from the owner asking why Tom was signing their players for the Tigers .... The general idea was to unify the whole hockey set up once the Tigers were established, sadly, I very much doubt that the Titans would be part of this.

That's a real shame, we could build a structure whereby a player can play hockey in Telford from junior through to the ENL and then the EPL as Sheffield have done.
Surely the Titans owner was aware that Tigers were signing Titans players? Wouldn't they need clearance from the EIHA and their current team to move clubs?

The rink foyer has been the place of crime in as much as our zap stand (pull up banner) has dissappeared from there .. without trace. Posters are placed in spaces allocated to us by the rink. We have to comply with their requests as after all, it is their building. The shop is owned by Dave Fielder ... sometimes boss of the Titans... at the moment, there is no love lost between the Titans and Tigers. We have looked at this as a trust and can do no more at the moment where the rink is concerned..... Please keep 'em coming ..... Maybe if we feel we've exhausted all options with the rink we could go to the rink managers' superior within the council?

Would we be able to give out flyers at Night Skating Sessions? As the people that go to them are more likely to make use of the discount.

So so many fans....don't think you have many to lose?
Not everyone watches football or supports those teams that might want to attend a Saturday game. Other teams get decent crowds on Saturdays that live close to a football team.

Over the past few seasons the previous management experimented each season with changing home game days to see how best to maximise likely attendance.
They switched from primarily Sunday face-off's to Saturday face-off's to see if that improved anything, but in reality the crowd numbers dropped on Saturday but were improved for the handful of Sunday games that season.
In the last season of the Tigers (07/08) we had a 50/50 split of Saturday and Sunday games to see which one proved most popular, these games were also then split between pre-Christmas and post-Christmas to give a clear picture of attendance over the season.
Based on a 5:30pm face off (allowing the rink to then hold a popular public skating session after us) the Sunday games came out on top by a clear margin, hence the reason this season to host our home games on a Sunday where possible as they proved most popular over a 3 year period.
The only other option is to move back to a Saturday and have a 7:00pm face-off, however to do this we'll have to compensate the rink for the significant loss of public skating on a Saturday night and it will make it difficult for the many players that have work / college on a Monday.
Whilst I'd personally love to get back to 7:00pm face-off's on a Saturday night, until we're filling upstairs and pushing for downstairs to be open then Saturday nights are sadly off the menu. I guess its up to us all to fill the place first, and then its easier to convince the rink its in their financial interest to give us our traditional Saturday night game slot back :-)

www.sportengland.org/fundingSport England are once again matching any sponsorship up to the value of £100,000. I guess it would be in the Tigers interest to have a look at the above site and see if they are eligible for the funding.
