A little shocked at this...I thought they would give Shanks another year. Ok they didn't have the best of years but they made it to playoffs weekend when most people were saying slough would win the encounter.
If I was a phantoms fan I would be disappointed with the lack of consistency there.

I'd recommend the Phantoms online forum to anyone. It's really quite entertaining with a few very vocal contributors (slightly less so now that Twisted Sock is back up and running). The Phantoms fans have been split on Shanks all season with some wanting continuity and some wanting a change.
I would hazard a guess that this is to do with money. They now have a player coach rather than a full time off ice coach which presumably will make it easier (and cheaper) for them to fill their import slots.
I rate Chris as a player and the Phantoms fans seem too aswell so this looks like it could be a good move by the Phantoms management - if the money they save by going with an import player-coach is invested back in to the Club. Of course, Chris has realtively little experience as a Coach so that could be a snag.
As an aside Dwayne Newman seems to be in a very similar situation with the Phantoms fans so that will be worth keeping an eye on. If they don't want him then perhaps he could come back to Telford!?

Phantoms do seem to be one of those teams that change their coach every season.
I can only imagine that it's down to Shanks wanting more money than they can afford, because he hasn't exactly underachieved given the resources at Peterborough's disposal (their attendance is about right for a mid table side).

Phantoms have today announced that Tom Carlon will not be returning for the 2011/12 season...Telford bound perhaps?

Would be nice but Bracknell seem to be in the frame too Slough is another team I've heard him linked with. Although I'm sure I read on THF a few years ago that he had a good job in the Midlands, so didn't want to travel too far for hockey.
