some rule changes i cut and pasted from the flames forum that originated on the hockey forum. just for your information folks
As requested earlier and to stop you all shouting at us when the season starts.
These are IIHF changes not EIHA so dont bitch at Mo for these....
There are other minor ones but these are the ones that are the major changes.
223, Players Helmet
If a players helmet comes off the player must immediately leave the ice. (Cant pick it up or take part in play must leave the ice immediately)
234, Goalies Helmet
if a shot hits the Goalies FACEMASK play should be stopped (note the word change not helmet just facemask)and a goal cannot be scored form a rebound from the face mask, If it hits the helmet play goes on. All other aspects of this rule do not change.
411, Change of Players & Goalies
The Changing zone around benches is now reduced from 3 metres to 1.5 metres.(this is the area guys can be in during a change)
The following are added to clarify the rule book, they were in the case book but have been added to aid clarification.
B, if, during a substitution, the player ENTERING the game plays the puck or makes physical contact with an opponent while the player leaving the ice is still on the ice. It is a too many men call.
D, If during the substitution if either the player leaving the ice or the one entering the game is struck accidentally by the puck the play shall not be stopped and no penalty called. (so hopefully we wont hear calls for 2 many men every time there is a line change now)
460, Icing
U 16 and above the team Icing the puck cannot change players any attempt to do so after the puck has been struck is a bench minor. (as last years EPL)
492 High Sticking the Puck
Face off position change now goes to either to the defending zone if the puck was struck in the defending or neutral zone, but goes to Neutral zone if was struck in the attacking zone.
502 Bench Minor
A Bench Minor must now be served by a player who was on the ice at the time of the infraction, not as previous by anyone from the bench.
508 Penalty shot
A PS can now be awarded if a Goalie comes out of his net and fouls a player on a clear breakaway regardless of whether it is from in front, the side or behind. (used to be a minor)
509 Penalty Shot Procedure
Changed so that now the player fouled must take the shot unless in the opinion of the Referee he/she is injured. (used to be any player could take it)
514 Delayed Penalties
D, if after the Referee has raised his arm a goal is scored by the non offending team, the goal shall be allowed and the 1st minor penalty shall not be assessed but all others are (as current)
NEW for 2010.
If the offending team is already short handed, the first minor or bench minor being served and shown on the clock shall be terminated and the penalty being signalled shall be assessed as normal. So now the Ref has to remember the scorer, the assists and the penalized player554 b Goal Displacement
If at any time during the course of a Penalty Shot (beginning when Ref blows whistle) the Goalie deliberately moves or displaces the goal net the Ref shall award the none offending team a Goal.
556 Broken stick.
A Goalie can no longer play with a broken stick as the section relating to this has been removed, as with players the broken stick must now drop it. If not they will be assessed a penalty as players do.
